Outside of work, Dr. Caldwell enjoys spending time with Dr. Fornara, their two sons, and their dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and tortoise. He enjoys cooking, grilling, fishing, traveling, SCUBA diving, and sailing.
He and Dr. Fornara are also involved in international animal volunteer work. In 2023, they donated time, supplies, and veterinary expertise in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to help treat dogs with Transmissible Venereal Tumors. In recognition of this work, they were commissioned as Kentucky Colonels by the Governor of Kentucky.
Dr. Kristin Fornara is an Arizona native whose family has been in the state for generations. Her love for animals began early by spending time with her uncle and great-uncle who were also veterinarians. By age three, she already knew she wanted to become a veterinarian, and one of her favorite childhood games was playing “animal hospital” with her stuffed animals.
She would also spend time growing up around real animals in her home and on her family’s ranch, where she helped care for cows, horses, dogs, cats, goats, sheep, a pig, guinea pigs, and chickens. From a young age, she was drawn to helping injured, abandoned, and vulnerable animals.
Dr. Fornara earned her bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary Medicine from Arizona State University where she was also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She continued her education pursuing her veterinary degree at St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine and The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
During this time she also completed additional training in companion animal dentistry through the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine.
After returning to Arizona, she began her veterinary career at the same clinic where she did her pre-veterinary medical training. She later became Medical Director at an AAHA-accredited animal hospital in the East Valley, where she developed extensive experience in general practice, dentistry, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, preventive care, and diagnostic lab interpretation.
Dr. Fornara has a strong interest in canine and feline dentistry, including advanced oral surgery. She understands that dental disease can be painful, progressive, and easy for pet owners to miss, which is why she places a strong emphasis on education and early intervention.
Dr. Fornara also has an interest in diagnostic labwork interpretation, internal medicine, preventative care, senior care, and general surgery.
Her approach is collaborative and compassionate. She wants pet owners to understand the “why” behind treatment recommendations so they can make informed decisions for their pets.
Whether she is performing a dental procedure, helping a puppy or kitten through their first visits, managing a chronic condition, or supporting a family through end-of-life care, Dr. Fornara brings both clinical skill and genuine care to each appointment.
When she is not caring for patients, Dr. Fornara enjoys spending time with Dr. Caldwell, their two sons, Henry and Jack, and their pets, which include dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and a tortoise. She loves visiting her family’s ranch, traveling, enjoying delicious meals with family and friends, horseback riding, hiking, and SCUBA diving.
Like Dr. Caldwell, she is also involved in international veterinary volunteer work and was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in recognition of those efforts.
In 2022, Dr. Fornara co-founded Phoenix Mobile Veterinarians with Dr. Caldwell to bring high-quality veterinary care directly to pets and families at home. As the practice grew, they expanded into a full-service Scottsdale animal hospital so they could provide more advanced hospital-based services, including dental cleanings, oral surgery, soft tissue surgery, spay and neuter procedures, X-rays, and diagnostics.
Today, their combined hospital and mobile model allow them to provide flexible care while keeping pets connected to one trusted veterinary team.
